Vin Arora
Vin Arora, an artist, technician and ceramics instructor based in Calgary, integrates the dynamism of urban existence with a profound respect for the natural world, material logic, and enigma within their artistic creations. Each work, from his simple pots to his complex sculptures, has the capacity to elicit a variety of ambiances, from communal celebrations and contemporary musical performances to surreal visions and quiet retreats.
Commencing his formal studies at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design (now ECUAD) in 1996, Arora engaged with ceramics in Vancouver prior to relocating to Calgary in 2024. Their artistic progression has been significantly impacted by collaborations with numerous esteemed educators, artists, and ceramicists in Vancouver, alongside the cultural influences gained from travels to India and Britain.
Artist Statement:
Vin's artistic methodology is informed by urban explorations and introspective nature walks, which influence the chromatic, formal, and textural characteristics of their output. The artist's engagement with clay acts as a catalyst for social cohesion and community building, as well as a conduit for personal introspection.
